Day 5 of The Kerala Story’s box office revenue surpasses Rs 56 cr
Everyone was taken aback by The Kerala Story’s success at the box office. Compared to other star-driven films that have been released in 2023 so far, the contentious movie is performing better. The Kerala Story, a Sudipto Sen-directed film, has performed practically on par with its debut Saturday on its fifth day of release (a working Tuesday), breaking the Rs 50 cr threshold in less than a week.
The Kerala Story earned Rs 11 crore on Tuesday, according to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, bringing its total revenue to Rs 56.72 crore. In the region of the country where Hindi is spoken, it had a total occupancy of 29.67%. The movie’s takings on the fifth day of release are actually a little bit higher than they were on the fourth. The Kerala Story, directed by Adah Sharma, began its run in theatres with Rs 8.03 crore, followed by Rs 11.22 crore on Saturday, Rs 16.40 crore on Sunday, and a double-digit sum of Rs 10.07 crore on its first Monday.
Despite the controversy swirling around movie, The Kerala Story is still trailing the equally contentious 2022 film The Kashmir Files in terms of ticket sales. On its debut Tuesday, the Vivek Agnihotri movie had brought in Rs 18 crore. Despite The Kerala Story being in hot water for allegedly misrepresenting facts, audiences are still flocking to see it in large numbers. The Kerala Story is based on claims that ISIS radicalised Keralan women. A day after the West Bengal government banned the movie, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday proclaimed it to be “tax-free.”
Within five days, The Kerala Story had surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark. Bholaa, an Ajay Devgn film, took a week to reach the same milestone. The combined lifetime earnings of Selfiee (Rs 16.85 cr) by Akshay Kumar and Shehzada (Rs 32.20 cr) by Kartik Aaryan are not even close to The Kerala Story’s five-day earnings.
Actor Tovino Thomas recently discussed the controversy surrounding the movie, particularly how the producers decided to change some of the assertions that were made in the trailer. He urged people to “stop believing irrationally” while stating, “32000, afterwards they modified it, but why did they mention 32000 in the first place? We are all aware that the number 32000 was a hoax; it has since been changed to 3. Why does that matter? People will understand even if I don’t say anything. I want people to abandon blind faith.
