Mani Ratnam the director of Ponniyin Selvan 2 says Hindi cinema should stop referring to itself as Bollywood

“Mani Ratnam is getting ready for the April 28, 2023 release of Ponniyin Selvan 2. He spoke on a panel on April 19, 2023 about the influence of South Indian cinema on global cinema. The CII Dakshin Media and Entertainment Summit panel was held in Chennai. Mani Ratnam asserted that people would cease referring to Indian cinema as Bollywood if Bollywood stopped referring to itself as Bollywood.
If Hindi cinema can quit referring to itself as Bollywood, then people will cease associating Indian movie with Bollywood, according to Mani Ratnam. The ‘woods’ are not my favourite. Kollywood, like Bollywood. We must consider it to be Indian film as a whole.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is based on the novel from 1955. At the conclusion of the first movie, Aishwarya Rai’s Oomai Rani dives into the water to save “Ponniyin Selvan.” It is financed by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
