Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan wasn’t a great movie, says Anupam Kher

Veteran actor Anupam Kher discussed the ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend that swept social media last year in a recent interview with ANI. Laal Singh Chaddha wasn’t a wonderful movie; if it had been, no one would have been able to stop it, he responded when asked if Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha had been impacted by the same. Aamir’s PK performed admirably. The key is that you must acknowledge the truth.

“I personally feel that this trend will not affect the film,” he continued. If your movie is good, it will succeed; if it’s poor, it will still be successful despite the trend. Expression is free for everyone. An actor, actress, or other member of the film industry should have the courage to at least attempt to navigate the issue if they have the freedom to speak about it. I absolutely oppose boycott movements, but you can’t stop someone from following their own preferences. However, if your product is good, people will buy it. They actually intend to return with a vengeance. Making brilliant work is the only way to stop this trend.

Khan opened up in an intimate conversation with Firstpost last year about his preparation for the character of Laal Singh Chaddha, his fascination with the classic Forrest Gump, and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s growth as an actor.

When asked about his character preparation, he admitted, “Getting into the character’s head was the main job, but for this character, I first had to grow a beard for the physicality. I was only in my 50s when we were filming four years ago; now, I’m 57. However, I’m portraying a 20-year-old first, then an 18-year-old. It was quite challenging to retain that innocence after having experienced so much in life because we see this character in a variety of age groups (smiles). And it was my toughest obstacle.
