Gauri Khan began designing out of necessity because they couldn’t afford a designer, according to Shah Rukh Khan.
Gauri Khan, the wife of actor Shah Rukh Khan, just released her coffee table book, My Life in Design. In the book’s prologue, her famous spouse SRK writes some intriguing things about Gauri.
A Twitter user posted some screenshots from the preface, in which SRK discussed how Gauri first got into designing. At that time, they had just purchased their first home and were expecting Aryan Khan, their first kid. Gauri took up the task as they could not afford a designer and goods were expensive.
“Obviously, it was out of our price range, but we needed a place to live because we were expecting Aryan. Therefore, it was decided that we would try to purchase items as and when we received the money. Gauri took on the role of designer because we couldn’t afford one, SRK wrote.
Additionally, he said, “We once went to buy a sofa, but since it was too expensive, we just bought the leather for the sofa on one of my travels and waited for some carpenter to build what Gauri had designed in a notebook.”
According to SRK, when they purchased Mannat, they used all of their resources to purchase the home, which left them in a tight financial situation. Gauri then put on her designer hat once more and said, “Slowly, what started as a necessity turned into a passion.”
The Pathaan actress continued by stating how difficult it was to create her own home. Gauri, however, prepared herself expecting the same. According to Shah Rukh Khan, “The very challenging work of creating her own house, the appreciation of friends, and the sheer passion to ensure that our home was what we always wished egged her on to learn new things. She developed her ability to perceive rooms and ascertain how fundamental conveniences, practicality, and beauty combine to form a house.
